Da Nang is one of Vietnam’s major international gateways, the largest city in central Vietnam and a major port.

The city originates from the Champa kingdom. Our tour is designed to introduce you to the key sites and important history of the city including Lady Buddha pagoda (CHUA LINH UNG), Marble Mountains (NGU HANH SON) and the Museum of Cham Sculpture.

Lady Buddha pagoda, famous for the Goddess of Mercy statue, faces the Eastern Sea. On the left is Cham Island, to the right is the Hai Van Pass. The pagoda was built on 12 hectares of land on Son Tra Mountain. It symbolizes belief and the nation. It marked the development of Vietnamese Buddhism in the 21st century.

Marble Mountains is a well-known pilgrimage site with peaks, caves, tunnels and temples composed of a group of five limestone and marble hills. Named after the 5 elements of metal, wood, water, fire and earth, Marble Mountains exist in a coastal area renowned for stone cutting and sculpture. 10km south of Da Nang. This tour will make a stop at a well-known marble workshop where you will see how local artisans make the Buddha statues with great patience and skill.

Museum of Cham Sculpture first opened in 1919 and was enlarged in 1936. It is the world’s largest collection of Cham artifacts.

The collection was started by French archaeologists and experts from L’École Francaise d’Extrême Orient (EFEO). Some artefacts were sent overseas to Paris while others made their way to Hanoi and Saigon museums; manytypical objects were left in Tourane – now modern day Da Nang.

TOUR INTRODUCTION

Starting point: La Siesta Resort & Spa

Da Nang is Vietnam’s fourth largest city, a major international gateway and port. The city originates from the ancient Champa kingdom.

Our tour introduces you to a few key sites and the city’s history. Highlights include Marble Mountains (Ngu Hanh Son) and either the Linh Ung Pagoda, which houses the Lady Buddha Da Nang statue or the Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture.

ITINERARY

Depart from the Resort by car traveling northwards. The first stop is to Marble Mountains. This is a famous pilgrimage site composed of a cluster of five marble and limestone hills named after the five natural elements of metal, wood, water, fire and earth. Climb up and discover many caves, pagodas, shrines and temples. The mountains are located in a coastal area renowned for stone cutting and sculpture, 10km south of Da Nang.

After Marble Mountains, you have a choice of visiting either the Linh Ung Pagoda or the Museum of Cham Sculpture.

Linh Ung Pagoda option. We continue northwards following the coastal road to the Son Tra Peninsula. Here we visit the gleaming white Lady Buddha Da Nang overlooking the city, the tallest Buddha statue in Vietnam, which is located inside the Linh Ung Pagoda. This is the famous Quan Am (Goddess of Mercy) statue, which faces the Eastern Sea. Linh Ung Pagoda occupies 12 hectares of land on Son Tra Mountain. It symbolizes belief and the nation and marks the development of Vietnamese Buddhism in the 21st century

Museum option. From Marble Mountains we continue north up the coastal road and then head westwards into Da Nang across the Han River. The Museum of Cham Sculpture opened in 1919 and was enlarged in 1936. The museum houses the world’s largest collection of Cham artifacts which was started by French archaeologists and experts from L’École Francaise d’Extrême Orient (EFEO). Some artefacts went overseas to Paris, others were taken to Hanoi and Saigon museums, while many typical objects were left in Da Nang.

We return to the Resort where the tour ends, in time for lunch.
