To be launched in mid-April 2017, Athena Cruise seeks to deliver a one-of-its kind trip to the natural world heritage site of Halong Bay. There are 4 types of cabins spreading over 3 decks: Executive suites, Elegant Suite, Terrace suite and Family Suite.
Restaurants and sundecks are both spacious and well-equipped to make sure you will enjoy every single moment being on board. You can spend your leisure time reading books or watching sunset with 360 degree view from the top deck, or indulge in luxury spa service.

(*) Vietnam Visa on Arrival (VOA) is quite different from the normal “on Arrival” concept. If you wish to do the VOA service here, you need to employ an agent in Vietnam (like our hotel) to obtain an official of approval letter for VOA before you arrive. Later, at the airport this letter must be showed together with your valid passport to get the Visa stamped.

DAY 1: HA NOI- BAI TU LONG BAY-KAYAKING-VUNG VIENG FISHING VILLAGE

DAY 3: BAI TU LONG BAY-THIEN CANH SON CAVE- HA NOI
- 06:30 Practice one of the oldest traditions of East Asia: Tai Chi – A beautiful and relaxing experience on the open deck.
- 07:00 The Early Bird Coffee is ready to wake up you
- 07:30 Explore Thien Canh Son cave in Ha Long Bay.
- Witness its beautiful stalactites and stalagmites. Note: there are about 200 steps to get up to the cave.
- 09:00 Check out time.
- Please put your luggage outside the cabin and the key at the reception desk.
- Our staff will transfer your luggage to our lounge for you. Bill settlement at the reception desk.
- 09:30 Brunch is served at the restaurant on the 2nd deck.
- 10:45 The boat arrives at the pier.

- Cruise itinerary and schedule are subject to change due to weather, tide levels, and operating conditions. Swimming or kayaking excursions may be cancelled due to poor weather. Unused services are not subject to a refund.
- Meals on-board are fusion: Vietnamese, seafood & international. Guests should provide us with any special food preferences, allergies or dietary requirements at least 3 days prior to the departure date.
- Advance registration is required with full name, date of birth, nationality, gender, passport number and visa expiry date for all passengers. A valid passport is required upon check-in. Otherwise, boarding may be denied by the port authority.
- Elderly people, people with physical health problem or kids who cannot use kayaking and need to use a bamboo boat are free of charge.
- The third person using extra bed shall be added 75% price as one adult

The family travelled on this cruise along the Ha Long Bay. The services and the hospitality by the staff, especially Lisa was far above our expectations. The food was fantastic and dietary requirements were sufficiently catered for and the whole family had a great time.

Great thing about this tour is the bus that drives you from hotel in Hanoi to the port (included in the price of the tour). It is very big and comfortable, however the wifi didnt work at all. Be careful with your package when getting into trunk. Better put them into rain cover or any protection bag, as our backpacks ended up wet and dirty. Another positive was, that when I forgot my sunglasses in the bus, they managed to bring them back to our hotel.
The cruise was nice, clean and comfortable. The staff was also nice, however the improvement of languague skills would be really appreciated as the communication was quite difficult. The cruise manager Ha was very helpful, professional with good english 🙂
Advice: try to avoid room number 102 where the shower drain smelled terrible and airfreshener didnt help.
Excellent food, recommended if you like seafood.
Overall, we were satisfied and enjoyed our trip.

The boat is excellent, the lanscape is amazing, good food, the crew is extremelly kind, professional and friendly!!
We asked a waiter how to watch the Champions League final and he used his personal mobile to watch it, being awake with us until 4:00 am.

My partner and I booked the two night, three day option based on my previous experience where I felt that a one night cruise was too rushed and the experience was over just as you started to enjoy it. A two night cruise was definitely the right choice.
About the trip…
With Athena, your memorable experience starts in Hanoi with the luxury transfer that you are welcomed onto. On arrival in Halong Bay, you are ushered into a private lounge and served chilled apple juice before being transferred to the cruise boat. After a quick orientation session you are left to check in and enjoy your cabin at leisure. A buffet lunch is spectacularly presented and delights any pallet. A tour of a floating village follows lunch.
On the first evening you enjoy a cooking class on the deck and time relaxing and taking in the splendid view of this World Wonder. *Happy hour for drinks from 17h30 to 18h30 – buy one get one free.
On the second morning we slept in and enjoyed breakfast at 07h45. (They first get the formalities over for the folk on the one night cruise and transferred them off the boat before we were served breakfast.)
After breakfast we were transferred to the day boat and set sail for Lan Ha Bay – this is less of a tourist spot, so you get to enjoy the unspoilt beauty with few tourists. We “kayaked” to a small beach and spent the morning swimming amongst the limestone giants. Lunch was served back on the Athena Elegance Day Boat… What a delightful spoil of giant prawns, chicken, morning glory, tomatoe soup, fresh fruit and tea. *Beers and soft drinks are also served at a cost.
Day three, up early for Tai Chi on deck, breakfast, check out, and explore “Thien Canh Son” or “Amazing Cave” before having an early lunch as the boat make its way back to the harbour for transfer back to Hanoi.
To sum up, we enjoyed a luxury stay and jam-packed agenda with the Athena Elegance Cruise and I would recommend this cruise if you are wanting some R&R and time out. Staff are super friendly, the Athena Elegance lives up to its name.
*Some tips :
1. This is not a party cruise, so no disco or karaoke after dinner and no jumping off the side of the boat for a swim. You’re here to relax, and they even offer a spa service to this point.
2. I couldn’t find information about the cost of drinks, so I’m attaching sample photos of the drinks menu and prices.
3. Considering point 2 above, buy plenty of large waters, soft drinks and alcohol in Hanoi. The room does have a bar fridge – which switches off when the room key/ card is removed – seems counterintuitive.
4. In attaching the itinerary for the 3 day 2 night cruise, but things can change depending on factors like weather.
