Overview

Welcome on board with Heritage Line on magnificent Ha Long Bay.

A medley of limestone pillars, tiny islets topped by forest rise from the emerald waters of the Gulf of Tonkin. A World Heritage site since 1994, Ha Long Bay’s spectacular scenery is a visualization of ethereal beauty. Heritage Line invites you to explore it with us.

Highlights
  • Free letter for visa on arrival (stamp fee is not included).
  • 02 Spa coupons for a 45-min course (foot or back treatment) at Hanoi La Siesta Spa.
Itinerary 3 Days / 2 Nights
DAY ONE

The boat sets sail to cruise into the Bay. Find yourself getting acquainted with the facilities on board.
A delectable buffet lunch with a feast of choices is served in the restaurant. Savor your first hours in Ha Long
Bay on the sun deck by simply letting your eyes wander around the scenery.

We arrive at the area of Cua Van, a floating fishing village. From here we start to explore a cave named Tien
Ong, and the fishing village. Tien Ong is the most recently explored cave in Ha Long Bay. It shows evidence
of human civilization dating back to 10,000 – 8,000 BC. The cave is just five meters above sea level, 50 meters
deep and covers 1,000 square meters. Our guide takes you on a loop though the cave and explains about the
historical findings and the cave’s particulars.

The voyage continues to the fishing village. With a small bamboo boat rowed by the local people, we move
around in the calm sea of this secluded area and gain an insight into the village life. If you want you can
paddle by yourself in a kayak. This is a perfect way to freely move around in the calm area and experience
the village life.

After returning to the boat we sail to the overnight mooring area Luon Bo. During this time Ha Long Bay
reveals its most magnificent beauty – we call it the “blue hour”. Rewind on the sun deck with a drink of your
choice and let this moment sink in. During sailing, our chef demonstrates the preparation of particular Vietnamese
dishes. Feel free to join and practice by yourself.

Dinner is served in the restaurant either à la carte or buffet style. Afterwards the night is yours to kick-back
and abundantly enjoy these unique moments amidst a surreal landscape. A presentation with interesting
facts and insights on Ha Long Bay is also offered after dinner in the dining area.

Have a good night sleep in Ha Long Bay where once upon a time dragons played with sparkling jewels.

DAY TWO

Wake up at dawn to the lapping of the waves and the smell of freshly brewed coffee, which is available with
pastries in the dining room. Join the Tai Chi morning class on the sun deck which is a unique experience. By
following the moves of our instructor you merge with the surrounding scenery.

By tender boat we transfer to our day boat named “Sunset”. It is a cozy, smaller vessel on which we will
discover the hidden charms of Ha Long Bay. Breakfast is served as Sunset sails for the Surprise Cave, in
Vietnamese “Sung Sot”. Sung Sot is the biggest cave in Ha Long Bay with over 10,000 square meters. It is a
magnificent site with the most beautiful stalagmites and stalactites. The further you go inside, the bigger it
gets. We explore this natural sensation for about 60 minutes.

Once back on the Sunset ship, take some time to simply relax. Lean back on your sunbed while Sunset
smoothly sails further into the Bay. Here you have the chance for another close encounter with the fairylike
Ha Long Bay. Via kayak you can paddle through this bizarre water landscape. The cliffs stretch vertically
out of the water and you feel a sense of freedom meandering through this green medley of water and treetopped
islets. Back on board lunch is served in the restaurant.

Sunset continues the journey to a floating pearl farm. Ha Long Bay is also a place where pearls are cultivated.
In a small factory we learn how pearls are harvested and processed. After the visit, we leisurely sail back to
the mothership. Back “home” you have time for spa treatments or sunbathing while we sail to the spot.
Dinner is served in the dinning room around seven o’clock.

Before you retrieve to your cabin, you might like to have some fun squid fishing with our crew, or simply
lean back on one of the loungers and listen to serenity of Ha Long Bay

DAY THREE

For early risers (around 6:30 am) tea, coffee and pastries are available in the dinning room. A Tai Chi class is
offered on the sun deck to ease your mind and muscles.

The boat continues to sail to Ti Top Island. We head by tender to this little landmass in the Bay. Prepare yourself
for a refreshing morning swim on a sandy beach beneath high rock formations. If you prefer to be more
active climb up to the hill to the top of Ti Top Island from where you have stunning views over Ha Long Bay.
It takes 400 stone steps up and about 20 minutes to the top, minimal fitness and proper footwear is required.
There is also a viewing platform about half-way up with great panoramic views.

Back on board (around 8:45 am) you may like to shower and freshen up. Now it is time to enjoy the last
sailing time back to the harbor. A full breakfast is served in the dining room. Relax on the sun deck or in the
dining room while savoring the last cruise moments of this iconic site before arriving back on shore.

Our crew bids a fond farewell and helps with your belongings. Heritage Line and all the crew members
thank you very much for having you on board.

A truely memorable trip around Halong Bay with Sammie and the crew of Violet Junk. We had a lovely room at sea level with a little balcony at the bow by the captain. The weather was kind to us and we were lucky enough to share the boat with just 2 other couples. We were 3 different nationalities and a variety ages, this added to the fun of our 3 days on the Violet. The day side trips to the caves and river people were extremely worth while. Cameras and walking shoes are advisable as there is a 400 step mountain to climb and uneven stones when walking around the caves. On the last day canoes were provided and a beach swim after the mountain climb. The food was great and good variety. We travelled when it was starting to get uncomfortably hot but the up side was there were less tourists on the whole South East Asian trip, a real “6 of one and 1/2 dozen of the other”situation. Having travelled Europe in the tourist season last year, I think the hotter weather far preferable.

Truly special part of our adventure. We were driven to Halong Bay by the private driver we had in Halong whose smiling face greeted us as we came off the luxury junk 3 days later. Xam (Sam manager of the boat)greeted us with a smile and his polite professional manner all trip was a delight. We were blessed to be checked into the Phoenix suite. The views of the bay from the balcony and windows were jaw dropping. The food was delicious. Silver service. As we stayed 2 nights we benefited from the fun of the cooking lessons both nights. Also found the Tai Chi a peaceful experience at 7am. On top of the boat surrounded by the bay. For all the talk I’ve seen of how crowded Halong Bay is we found peace and relaxation on board the Violet.

The service on the day boat was top notch also. Loved the tours of the caves. First day with Xam and second day with ‘Bobby’. Third day Xam travelled over to Ti Top island with us where we walked up the 400 steps to take in the view.

The weather wasn’t as kind as we are normally blessed with and the staff went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed the best of times. On the Violet the staff were mindful of making it a great experience yet regarded the guests privacy as highly important too. The Phoenix suite was fitted out beautifully and we were very comfortable on board.

Nice touch was the Manager of the company waiting as we disembarked to ask how our trip was. Greeted my husband by name as I’d dashed off to the loo before the return trip to Hanoi. I will treasure this experience of Halong Bay as one that we will never be able to replicate.

We booked this through our UK based tour operator who told us that it was the only junk available on the night we wanted to spend in Halong Bay but that it would be more expensive than the one they had originally quoted for. We agreed to pay the supplement because seeing Halong Bay was a definite “must do”. I am so glad it worked out that way. This is a beautiful boat with the most amazing staff. I was unwell when we arrived on board (due, I think, to a dodgy meal the previous evening – so nothing at all to do with the Violet or Halong Bay). Sammy, the manager, the staff and the chef looked after me so very, very well and made sure that I was still able to enjoy the trip. I will remember their kindness forever. I wasn’t able to eat much while on board but my husband reported that the food was excellent and I saw that it was plentiful and beautifully presented. We were in a junior suite (Mountain) which was supremely comfortable and spacious with a good bathroom and a balcony on which there were two sun beds. All safety issues were addressed openly and clearly.

Highlight of our holiday in Vietnam. Thanks to Sammy and the rest of the crew for making it so.

Wow! We absolutely loved our time on this boat. I went with my husband and two teenage children. You feel really privileged. Top quality all the way. The scenery is breathtaking and yes there are a lot of other tourist boats but it didn’t takeaway the sheer beauty of your surroundings. The trips out are fun and educational and we joined in the morning tai chi and cooking class and although we only did the one night trip it felt like a proper time away. The comfort on the boat is amazing and lovely service. We were in the lower cabins but I’d go for the higher ones if you can as the little outside deck is close to the captain and his staff so no privacy. Nothing could beat the cocktail at the front of the boat watching the sunset. Gorgeous. The only thing I think they could improve is that when we arrived we got this freebie non alcoholic welcome drink. Surely given what we paid, a glass of fizz for the adults would set the tone better?!

The two nights on Violet would have to be the highlight of my three weeks in Vietnam. From the first introduction (which included some nerve wracking instructions ) to the final sad farewell everything was excellent. All staff were particularly polite and friendly. I had the Moon room which was so comfortable and spacious. Hard at times to believe that you were on a boat. The meals were all very good -a blend of Vietnamese and Western. The wine list was also quite extensive and not overly expensive.
Day trips were well planned. Many of the other passengers stayed only the one night. I would recommend doing the two nights. Again thank you so much for a wonderful ending to my stay in Vietnam.
